Halle Berry Speaks On Aging & Racism

In in an interview, Halle Berry is ask about the challenges of being a beautiful black woman in Hollywood and what its like to be in her 40‘s. She speaks about being a woman of color as a much harder fight than being beautiful and getting older. Ms. Berry also said that winning an Academy Award dose not change the image Hollywood has of certain roles not suited for her, due to her skin color or how race traditionally has defined who gets certain roles. This story is important to everyone reading it because it allows us to ask the question, “Who are we asking permission or approval from“. What awesome gifts have we been given that god intends us to share with the world. What opportunities does racism present in our everyday life to make a positive difference in someone’s life? How do we perpetrate the negative or allow ourselves to buy into the “I’m not good enough”, victim role, which has little to do with race and all to do with low value of self. The big question for us all centers around self-esteem, or value of self. How can we take responsibility for how we empower the world to make us less. How can we shift that internal dialogue from disempowering to empowering. I think Ms. Berry is a good role model for this challenge
